The Cuban Cooperation association (CubaCop) and the UFM-CGT trade union have signed an agreement in France for the restoration of the Arch of Triumph of the city of Cienfuegos, located in the central region of the Caribbean country, diplomatic sources said today.

After signing the agreement, CubaCop vice president, Manuel Pascual, explained that the aim of the project is to open the renewed Cuban Arch of Triumph in April 2019, on occasion of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of that city, established on the island's south coast by French settlers.

The total cost of the work, estimated at $18,000 Euros, will be defrayed by the unionists of the UFM-CGT (Union of the Metallurgy Fraternity), as part of the cooperation they have developed for years with the Caribbean nation, the president of the entity, Nicola Giglio, said.

The union leader signed and gave CubaCop the first check, valued at 9,000 Euros.

During the signing of the agreement, Cuban ambassador to France, Hector Igarza, thanked the two sides for their commitment and involvement in the restoration of the sculptural and cultural heritage of the Caribbean nation.
