The Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Alfredo López Valdés, spoke today with senior officials of several federal portfolios and institutes in this capital during his work visit to Austria.

As part of the agenda, he held meetings with representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

He also toured the Welt Spittelau power plant and the Pfaffenau MA 48 waste processing center, both in the capital, accompanied by Vice President Ruben Cid Carbonell, as well as Cuban Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernández and the Economic and Commercial Counselor, Sara Smith de Castro.

The visit to this country aims at promoting opportunities for investments in renewable energy sources, especially in biomass, which included the visit and technical exchanges at these two main solid waste recycling plants.

Austria, in particular its capital, shows a high technological development and environmental sustainability in the processing of this waste, to generate energy used in the power supply of the city's power grid.

It is also highly recognized worldwide for the development, production and export of advanced technologies in renewable energy.
