Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People´s Power of Cuba, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo, Clement Mouamba, confirmed today their will to strengthen commercial, economic and cooperation links between the two nations.

In his visit to the Caribbean island, the Congolese Head of State was welcomed by the President of Cuban parliament at the National Capitol, new seat of this legislative body. Both reaffirmed the strong links of friendship uniting the two peoples.

The also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Cuba made reference to the importance Havana has granted to the political nexus between the countries.

Lazo pointed out that Cuba is proud of its relations with African countries, especially with the Congo, whose history cannot be tackled without mentioning Commander Ernesto Guevara, who fought for the freedom of those lands along with a group of international fighters.

On behalf of Cuban government and people, Lazo thanked all the affection showed by the Congolese people in the aftermath of the passing away of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.

Lazo also emphasized on the solidarity the Congo has always shown towards the permanent struggle against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the US against Havana for more than fifty years.

According to the head of the Parliament, collaboration between the two nations relies on the presence of more than one hundred physicians in the African nation. Besides, more than two thousand young students from Congo are studying in Cuban schools.

Both countries are also collaborating in agriculture, livestock, and fishing, items included in a Memorandum of Understanding signed last August by representatives of both governments.

Mouamba felt proud that Africa has contributed to build today´s Cuba. He recalled Africa´s solidarity to the fights for the independence of the Caribbean island.
