Cuba has denounced today at the Committee on Information of the United Nations the ongoing attack on the island through radio and television from the United States.

During her speech at the 38th session of the committee, Cuban Ambassadress Anayansi Rodriguez said that the US airwaves aggression that has been going on during several US presidential administrations is against the goals and principles included in the UN Charter, as well as the regulations of the International Telecommunications Union.

'Through illegal broadcasts the Cuban radio and telecommunication specter has been attacked from US territory with the aim of trying to oust the constitutional order set up by the Cuban population', said Rodriguez.

According to the Ambassadress, an average of 1,875 hours were broadcast weekly in 2016, through 25 frequencies from the US territory.

'Cuba calls for the end of these actions and also the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, a country that is subjected to serious damage in the field of communication and information, as well as other sectors of the society,' said Rodriguez.

She also said that the attacks jeopardize the efforts of the region to become a peace zone, declared in January 2014 in Havana, during the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).
