Cuban President Meets FARC-EP Top Leader

President Raul Castro met with the top leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People''s Army (FARC-EP), Timoleon Jimenez, who is concluding his visit to Cuba.

According to an official press release published on Sunday in the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, Cuba participated for five years as a guarantor and was the venue for the peace talks between the guerrilla organization and the Colombian government.

During the meeting, the Cuban president reaffirmed the government's willingness to continue supporting the Colombian peace process and to contribute to the implementation of the agreements resulting from the Havana negotiations.

On his behalf and that of the FARC-EP, The guerrilla leader expressed gratitude for Cuba's contribution to the achievement of peace in his country.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla and Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra were also present at the meeting.
