Cuba Is among Fastest-Growing Tourist Destinations in Costa Rica
Cuba is currently among Costa Ricans'' favorite tourist destinations, with a growth of 72 percent in 2016, according to statistics from the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners, La Nacion newspaper reported.
The Caribbean island is behind the United Kingdom, with a 150-percent growth, and Peru, with 145 percent, compared to monthly migration records from January 2014 to December 2016.
According to the newspaper, the statistics are similar to an increasing trend in the country's general departures, as a result of the diversification of air transportation offers and increased promotions of services for travel, according to organizations like the Costa Rican Tourism Institute and the National Chamber of Tourism.
In recent years, Cuba has grown considerably and other destinations reported an increase in the number of Costa Rican visitors, although only for a few months.
Viajes Colon Manager Kathya Garrido stated that the constant phenomenon of Cuba and the temporary increase reported by Cayman Islands, Aruba or Jamaica is related to more offers of cruise travels to those destinations.
