In a meeting with Cuban Vice President Ulises Rosales del Toro in Tehran on Sunday, President Rouhani hailed the successful results of his official visit to Cuba in 2016, emphasizing that the agreements achieved in that trip should be implemented.
The president also described the Cuban vice president’s visit to Iran as a testimony to Havana’s determination to enhance ties with Tehran.
Praising Iran and Cuba for the policies they share in countering hegemony, President Rouhani called for unity among the independent states in the face of the powers that seek to mount pressure on the “freedom-seeking nations” by imposing sanctions and violating their commitments.
For his part, the Cuban official congratulated President Rouhani on taking the office for the second term, describing his election as a sign of political, economic and social stability in Iran.
Rosales del Toro also urged the need for closer ties among the independent states in the international arena.
In a visit to Cuba in September 2016, President Rouhani and his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro co-chaired a meeting of high-ranking delegations, during which the two sides agreed to give a boost to Iran-Cuba Joint Economic Commission and deepen economic relations.
