Cuban President Raul Castro placed on Monday a floral wreath before the tombs of Cuba's National Hero Jose Mari and the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, accompanied by the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in that eastern city, Lazaro Exposito Canto.

Raul visited on Sunday August 13th, the monument complex at Las Coloradas Beach that recalls where the landing of the Granma yacht took place on December 2nd 1956.

It took place 60 years, 8 months and 11 days of the date when the Rebel Army was born, which under the leadership of Fidel had overcome the setback of the Alegria de Pio battle. Fidel was able to regroup his forces with the support of humble campesinos and the July 26th Movement, expand his struggle towards other areas in the east and later in the central provinces and Pinar del Rio and defeat the Batista army despite its superiority in men and weapons.

During Raul's visit, he recalled those difficult moments in which the Commander in Chief expressed faith in victory.
