The Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MCSC) deplored today the decision taken by US President Donald Trump to cut the Cuban diplomatic staff in Washington, based on unfounded grounds that represent a step backwards in the bilateral relations.

In a statement, MCSC said that the actions taken by Trump violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, because there is no evidence at all of Cuba's involvement in the alleged diseases of the diplomats from the US Embassy in Cuba due to 'attacks of an unknown nature'.

'We believe that Mr. Trump is fulfilling his agenda of promises and commitments, as announced in last June, (in meeting with the far right-wing in Miami), which seeks to break diplomatic and consular ties between the United States and Cuba', said MCSC.

MCSC said that it is very suspicious that precisely under Trump's management, US diplomats in Cuba are attacked, despite 30 years of work of the U.S. Interests Section in Cuba with no incidents at all.

In that regard, MCSC described Trump's decision as hasty, because the slightest accusation has not been presented by the US Government, and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has reiterated that causes and perpetrators of the alleged diseases have not been determined.

MCSC said that Cuba has always shown good actions, respect, solidarity and friendship toward the US people and authorities, 'in few places in the world US people are so respected as in Cuba', said MCSC.

'We call for the immediate end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade set up by the US Government against Cuba, as well as the actions taken by Trump and those who take advantage of his nonsense to break diplomatic and consular bilateral ties', said MCSC.
