Cuban President Raul Castro sent a message of congratulation for the centennial of the Great October Socialist Revolution, received today by Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF).

Jose Ramon Balaguer, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its International Relations Department, delivered the official document to Zyuganov.

In the message, Raul Castro describes the October Revolution as a significant event that marked a milestone in the history of humanity, the influence of which has been present in the struggles for independence, decolonization and self-determination of the peoples.

Meanwhile, Zyuganov appreciated the congratulations and expressed his hope that the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Russia will continue deepening.

Balaguer participates in the 19th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties that takes place in the city of St. Petersburg (former Leningrad), as part of the activities to mark the centennial of the Great October Socialist Revolution.

Balaguer previously stated in the aforementioned meeting that, because of its world impact, the October Revolution was, according to historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, 'the most significant event of the 20th century.'
