Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, a member of the Communist Party of Cuba Political Bureau and minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, cast his vote early this morning at polling station number two, circumscription three, in the Havana municipality of Playa.

Speaking to the press, Cuba’s Foreign Minister noted that the country’s electoral process has attracted the interest of the international community, given the current national and regional context, and that it is an honor for the Cuban people to be exercising their right to vote amidst such a turbulent global situation, when it is increasingly difficult for citizens to freely express their will in processes driven by money and corporate interests.

Rodríguez Parrila also highlighted the legitimacy of the Cuban electoral system, based on merit, transparency and its great ability to mobilize the population.

“The elections have coincided with the first anniversary of the death of the Comandante, commemorated in a simple, moving and deep way by our people. His legacy is also present in these elections,” stated the Cuban official.

Bruno went on to mention the recent tightening of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and prohibition of U.S. citizens from traveling the island.

“I wish that the North American people could have an electoral process like ours and come to our county to form their own opinion about Cuba’s system of democracy,” stated the Foreign Minister.
