Doctor of Science Enrique Alemán stated here today that the importance of the Platform for Interreligious Dialogue in Cuba is the daily exercise of unity and peace in the alliance of citizens.

A united society - regardless of its religious creed or atheism - stands out as the maxim of the structure born in the heat of the international campaign for the return to Cuba of the five anti-terrorist prisoners in the United States, Alemán said in a statement to Prensa Latina.

The coordinator of the Platform and president of the Spiritist Federation of Havana recalled that the activities for the liberation of Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and René González brought together believers from various regions of the world.

The Five - as they were internationally known in the campaign for their release - served severe sentences in the United States for monitoring activities of far-right groups that forged terrorist plans against Cuba.

Alemán, who participated in the lecture Cuban Interreligious Platform, an exercise in religious freedom, praised the role of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the campaign for the return of the heroes.

Inaugurated by the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, the event also brought together panelists from other faiths, such as pastor Ofelia Miriam Ortega, who considered that today we do not live in times of a single religion, but of religious pluralism.
