In addition to the construction of new facilities benefiting residents, 54 families affected by Hurricane Irma from the Emilio Córdova community in Villa Clara, received new homes.

As well as the construction of new homes, all of which feature running water, electricity and sewage networks, other works benefiting the population were carried out, including the construction of a bakery, unisex hair salon and office for the Family Support system.

Meanwhile, Emilio Córdova now also features shops selling industrial products and supplies, a funeral parlor, post office, modern cafeteria, medical center, retail stores, a Youth Computing Club, children’s playground and sports and cultural areas, all geared toward improving residents’ quality of life.

During the act, entities and outstanding individuals that participated in recovery efforts in this small fishing community were recognized.

Meanwhile, Mariano Rodríguez González, among those who received a new home, highlighted the quality of the work, which he described as the fulfillment of a dream, and something only possible in a society such as ours.

By the beginning of this year around 15,500 or 30% of the over 51,000 homes damaged by Hurricane Irma in the central province had been repaired.
