The 28th Cuban Congress of Pediatrics is closing its activities today after several days of scientific exchange with more than 400 participants from Latin America, Europe and the United States.

The main activity today will be the delivery of the Angel Arturo Aballí (1880-1952) Prize, to pay a tribute to the forerunner of the discipline in the island.

The Congress, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Cuban Society of Pediatrics, will also conclude its scientific program with several lectures on the specialty and a session of pneumology in children.

Experts, among other issues, will talk in this forum about the heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.

According to the island's health authorities, the vaccine, named Quimi-Vio, will also be included in the Cuban childhood vaccination scheme of 10 vaccines against 13 diseases.

One of the achievements of the Cuban Society of Pediatrics in its 90th anniversary is that the country closed 2017 with the lowest infant mortality rate: four per 1,000 live births.
