Deemed to be one of the most important Romanian counties, foreign diplomats in person wish to come in Prahova to develop the collaboration relationships. The latest example is the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Bucharest, who came to Ploiesti to stimulate the bilateral agreement signed years ago between the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and industry and Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Bucharest, H.E. Roberto Cesar Hamilton Magana, visited Prahova County at the end of last week, on which occasion he met the leadership of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Ambassador was accompanied by two managers of the company Cuba Petroleo, oil industry being a strategic sector of the South American country’s economy; the Cuban delegation also visited the Ploiesti Oil and Gas University. Presenting the economic potential of the county to the Cuban guests, the President of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aurelian Gogulescu, wished to mentioned that the development of the economic relations between Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established on the basis of a bilateral agreement signed in 2001 which is still in force, is considered among others. “We have a strong wish to develop the economic relations with Cuba, especially in Prahova, which is the heart of the Romanian oil industry. There are also four Cuban students at the Ploiesti Oil and Gas University, with which we have excellent collaboration relations. Prahova County remained the home of the oil industry in our country, UPG Ploiesti (the Ploiesti Oil and Gas Industry – e.n.) being one of Romania’s ambassadors in the world, since so many specialists currently working in top companies all over the world have been trained here” the President of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aurelian Gogulescu also stated. Pointing out that he is pleasantly surprised of hat he found out about Prahova County, the Cuban Ambassador in Bucharest, H.E. Roberto Cesar Hamilton Magana, wished to say: “For Cuba, for the Embassy, for our delegation, it is an honor to be here, in Ploiesti, in the land of oil. It is my first visit as Ambassador to a Romanian Chamber of Commerce, and although I heard a lot of beautiful things about this county, I must admit that I am more than pleasantly surprised. I have a mandate from the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Industry to stimulate the bilateral agreement signed in 2001, to make it not to remain just a signature on a paper and to make it alive”.

In her turn, the representative of the company Cuba Petroleo, Tania Perez Delgado, stated: “It is an honor to be in this city, where four Cuban students are also learning. At the same time, we are glad that in the strategic field of the oil industry, we have specialists who studied in Ploiesti. When they found out that we will come to Ploiesti, they gave us photos and wished best regards to their teachers and former university colleagues. The oil industry is vital in Cuba, and to the extent to which we will develop these relations, it will be beneficial for both parties”.

We mention that of the 1,750 foreign companies from Prahova, coming from 82 countries, there is one Cuban company operating in Ploiesti.

As for the diplomatic relations between Romania and Cuba, they were established at the embassy level on October 26, 1960. The bilateral political contacts showed a boosting tendency in the recent years, both by consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, and by meetings between the Romanian and Cuban Foreign Ministers.
