Cuba will present its commercial potential in the forthcoming business forum to be held in Lima, as part of the meetings of the VIII Summit of the Americas, which hosts the Peruvian capital since tomorrow.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, Orlando Hernández, detailed the program of the delegation that will represent the Caribbean nation in the hemispheric meeting.

We are going with a delegation of five people. We essentially carry Cuba's export capacity to the region, through medical services, as well as products from the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology, the official said.

Hernandez also referred to the potential of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZED Mariel) -located in the western province of Artemisa- as an attraction for foreign capital.

We know that there will be important companies from the continent, we will talk with their representatives, present our offers and see what they can offer, he explained.

In the business forum of Lima, convened on April 12 and 13, there will be a dialogue on the Cuban economy and the role played by state entities in the economic progress of the Caribbean country.

The Cuban delegation to that meeting is headed by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca; and in addition to Hernández, and by the general director of ZED Mariel, Ana Teresa Igarza, among other officials.

Apart from the business meeting, the VIII Summit of the Americas - whose high-level segment will be held on April 13 and 14 - will host meetings of civil society, young people, parliaments and indigenous people.

From the policy of isolation deployed by the US government against the island, Cuba was excluded from these regional conclaves in its first six versions, only attended the meeting in Panama in 2015.
