The 24th edition of the annual meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum will be held in Cuba on July 15-17, with participation of left-wing parties and progressive movements from the region.

The Cuban Communist Party (PCC) convened the Forum in compliance with the commitment made last year in Managua, Nicaragua, and according to the head of the PCC International Relations Department, Jose Ramon Balaguer, this is an internationalist political commitment for Cuba.

In a letter sent to the members of the international organization and quoted by local media, Balaguer assured that this is the time to unite ideas and efforts to stop, as soon as possible, the current onslaught by the international and regional right wing.

The meeting was held for the first time in 1990 in the city of Sao Paulo, under the auspices of the Workers' Party of Brazil, as a result of an initiative by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and then Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Almost three decades later, it brings together Latin American left-wing parties, groups and social and progressive movements, and it is a space for convergence, debate and joint actions for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The previous venues of the Sao Paulo Forum were:

- Mexico City, Mexico (1991); (1998); (2009) and (2015)

- Managua, Nicaragua (1992); (2000); (2011) and (2017)

- Montevideo, Uruguay (1995) and (2008)
