Cuba and Onudi are working today on a project for the modernization and technological update of two pilot plants for liquid fertilizers, an alternative to increasing food production and import substitution.

It is a project implemented by the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development (Onudi) based on a donation of 2 million USD dollars from the government of Russia to Cuba, the National Director of the project, Hitielys Santana, told Prensa Latina.

To materialize the study, two plants producers of liquid fertilizer were chosen; one of them is located in Nuevitas, Camagüey province and belongs to the fertilizers and pesticides company.

The other factory chosen is the one that produces fertilizer, which was developed by researchers at the Center for Chemical Research Engineering of Havana (Cdfer), a substitute for an imported liquid fertilizer, the result of innovation and with very similar characteristics in terms of crop yield of the product purchased abroad.

Among the objectives, she said, is the modernization of these plants to expand their production capacity in order to replace imports and meet a large part of the demand for liquid fertilizers that agriculture has.
