Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra met today with the medical brigade of the Caribbean country that is working in Nauru, on occasion of his participation in the 49th Pacific Islands Forum.

Sierra described as enjoyable the meeting with the 15 collaborators, who arrived in the small island state last week.

The medical brigade is made up of doctors from different specialties, including oncology, nephrology, psychiatry, endocrinology and internal medicine.

The 49th forum, the main event in the Pacific region bringing together 14 small island states, was opened today, as well as observers and dialogue partners, a condition the Caribbean nation has held since 2013.

Within the framework of the event, Sierra has met with leaders and high officials, such as the President of the Federated States of Micronesia Peter Christian, Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Rick Houenipwela, Minister of State of Palau Faustina Rehuher Marugg, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Marshall Islands John Silk.

According to Cuba's vision, his ties with the Pacific islands are motivated by feelings of solidarity and brotherhood.

Cuban doctors are currently working in Kiribati, Vanuatu and Nauru, and dozens of young people of the region are studying in the Caribbean nation.

Regarding the regional event in Nauru, the Cuban government recalled that climate change and sustainable development are common challenges with small island states.
