Cuban First Vice President Salvador Valdes reaffirmed today the support of the Caribbean island for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Asian country.

'Cuba has supported and will continue to support the Democratic Republic of Korea in its efforts in the constitution of socialism for the achievement of a lasting peace in the peninsula and for the reunification of its homeland,' said the Cuban leader.

Valdes participated in commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the DPRK's proclamation in this capital, on behalf of the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro, and of the Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

In this regard, he expressed that Cuba will reaffirm the high priority it gives to its relations with the DPRK, based on the special relationship between our historical leaders and the current leaders.

'We commemorate, along with the brothers of the DPRK, an important event in history, fruit of the heroic strength and achievements of that people under the leadership of the Korean Labor Party (PTC) and the great leader Kim Il-sung,' he said.
