The head of the International Relations Department of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Jose Ramon Balaguer, will travel to Japan this month to strengthen ties and cooperation between the two countries, diplomatic sources reported today.

The Cuban ambassador in that Asian country, Carlos Miguel Pereira, said through social networks that during his stay, scheduled from September 20 to 22, Balaguer will hold meetings with government authorities and leaders of the main Japanese political forces.

The agenda of the top Cuban official also includes a visit to the city of Hiroshima, and exchanges of criteria with representatives of solidarity organizations and friends from several sectors, in the context of the 120th anniversary of Japanese migration to the Caribbean island.

Cuba and Japan maintain economic-commercial links, especially in the energy sector, and have repeatedly expressed their willingness to join efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
