Cuban authorities and citizens remembered yesterday with a pilgrimage to the capital Necropolis of Colon, the attack committed on October 6, 1976, off the coast of Barbados, against a commercial plane of the island in flight.

Cuba and the families of the victims strongly condemn the crime, in which 73 people lost their lives (57 Cubans, 11 Guyanese and five Koreans).

On repeated occasions, the Caribbean nation denounced that the international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, the mastermind of the attack, lived peacefully and enjoyed protection in the United States until his death, without even regretting the crimes committed.

In this regard, Cubans repudiate the double standards of the US government, which, on the one hand, runs a crusade against those it considers to give refuge and finance to terrorists, and, on the other, allows asylum in its territory to criminals of the caliber of Posada Carriles.

The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, recalled that the relatives of the 73 victims of that terrorist act live under the shadow of injustice, because the masterminds ended their lives naturally without paying for their crimes.

In addition to paying tribute to the deceased, this date should be an opportunity to warn of the spread of such actions in the world, even in countries where they never existed, he told Prensa Latina.

In Cuba on October 6 is officially considered as Day of the Victims of State Terrorism. The date was chosen precisely to remember the crime against the plane, whose authors had proven links with the American Central Intelligence Agency.
