President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a congratulatory message to Cuba President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the country's 60th liberation day celebrations that were observed on January 1, 2019.

Uhuru noted that Kenya and Cuba work closely in various sectors and reaffirmed Kenya's aspiration to deepen this relationship.

The President conveyed his message through Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma.

"The recent state visit to Cuba which resulted in 100 Cuban specialists deployed to Kenya and 50 Kenya doctors training in Cuba cemented the ties," Juma said on Monday.

Last year, at least 50 Kenyan doctors arrived in Cuba to attend specialised medical training. The medics were admitted to the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana.

This was in line with the MoU steered by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Cuban counterpart in March.

The partnership is meant to boots Universal healthcare that is one of the four pillars that President Uhuru Kenyatta has prioritized in his second term.
