Cuba’s president Miguel Díaz-Canel urged the passing of the new Constitution, which will be submitted to popular referendum next February 24th. He also stated that Cuba will be a much better country, in line with present times.

“We will approve the Constitution we all drew up, for the good of all, in 15 days. Cuba is going to be a much better country in line with present times,” highlighted the Cuban Head of State in his Twitter profile.

The whole nation is working hard in recent days, especially voting stations that will lead the popular referendum.

For 13 months, the Cuban people have discussed the draft Constitution in 130,000 meetings held in neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and military units, where a number close to 8 million Cuban citizens participated.

This new Constitution —meant to replace the current Constitution approved in 1976— introduces reforms in the property, confirms that ore fields and beaches are owned by the socialist ownership by the whole people, recognizes human dignity as basic principle of all rights and duties, and ratifies free health care and education.

It also reaffirms the secular nature of the Cuban State, introduces the role of science as part of the economic foundations, the “socialist State founded on the rule-of-law,” and confirms the Communist Party as the superior political force.
