France ratified the Agreement on Political Dialogue and Cooperation between Cuba and the European Union (EU), with the promulgation of the law on the issue by French President Emmanuel Macron, diplomatic sources said today.

The regulations were published in the Official Gazette of the French Republic after analysis and approval in the National Assembly and the Senate, which validated it without making any changes.

In the case of the lower house, the examination in public session became a tribune condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island for almost 60 years, said a diplomatic note.

With the promulgation, the Gallic country concluded the process of national ratification of this Agreement, signed on December 12, 2016 in Brussels by the head of European diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, and the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez.

After the rubric, the European Parliament approved the text on July 5, 2017 and entered into provisional application on November 1 of that year. At present, the process of ratification of the pact by the parliaments of the countries that make up the community block is underway, after which the final entry into force will take place.

The Agreement is considered a historic step for the parties because it constitutes the framework to make possible and strengthen the links of cooperation between Cuba, the EU, and the member states.

The Cuban Foreign Minister stressed that 'there are particularly favorable opportunities and conditions, despite the extraterritorial application of the persistent US blockade against Cuba, so that the European Union and the countries that comprise it have a greater weight in our development plans.'

He added that 'the economic ties with Europe will continue to be for Cuba, in any case, a priority in the construction of an efficient and sustainable socialist economy.'
