Cuba''s foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez, called on Thursday to support the new Constitution in the February 24 referendum, as it is a magna carta that ratifies the aspirations for peace.

Referring to the appointment at the polls next Sunday, to which more than eight million Cubans are summoned, the official said in his Twitter account that the text also advocates the non-use or threat of the use of force in international relations. In its chapter II dedicated to international relations, the new law emphasizes respect for the independence and sovereignty of peoples and their right to self-determination.

In this way, the Constitution on which the inhabitants of the island will have to pronounce themselves collects principles defended by the Revolution throughout 60 years.

The text ratifies the socialist character of Cuba and the leading role of the Communist Party in society, proposes changes in the structure of the State, expands individual rights and guarantees, strengthens popular power at the grassroots and recognizes various forms of property, including private property.
