Cuban Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca called to work in coordination so the economic and cooperation ties with Algeria are at the ''highest level'' of the political relations that currently exist.
Since the first Cuban medical brigade arrived in Algeria in 1963, composed of 58 health professionals, the relationships reached a level of excellence based on mutual respect and cooperation.

From that moment, the exchange covered several areas such as energy, production of vaccines, supplies of medical equipment, new technologies, construction, education, culture and sports.

Official data refer that more than 500 Cuban specialists and health technicians are currently providing services in Algeria, where Cuba also collaborates in the construction of hospitals.

At the political level, the visits maintain the highest level with those made by former Cuban President Raul Castro to Algeria in 2009 and the official visit of current Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to Havana that same year.

Authorities of both countries maintain that going further and strengthening the economic-commercial level is necessary.

The 22nd Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Economic, Commercial, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation was held in Algiers from February 19 to 22 with this objective.

Algeria's support to Cuba in international forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States, forged ties of brotherhood that are strengthened at present and are now focused on the economic level, the authorities of both countries recognize.
