U.S.,Cuban Experts Demand Evidence on Case of Diplomats Health

Cuban and U.S. experts asked the U.S. government to show evidence of the alleged health problems of its officials at the embassy in Cuba and questioned Washington''s version.

A Cuban delegation from the National Academy of Sciences arrived in this capital last September to meet with doctors and analyze the data, but since then no evidence has been provided, denounced U.S. neuroscientist R. Douglas Fields during a panel held at the largest legation in the Antilles.

'These people (diplomats and their families) do not have all the symptoms. It's not a syndrome. (...) They don't share the symptoms, but they are describing it as a syndrome. The evidence of syndrome is not adequate, the evidence of injury is not adequate,' he said.

In a similar sense, Mitchell Valdes-Sosa, Director General of the Neuroscience Center of Cuba, spoke.

We have to observe a common syndrome and the existence of an induced injury in U.S. diplomats in Havana, but there is no evidence of it, he stressed.

We urgently request that our government identify concerns about these issues and support scientific exchange with Cuba, Professor Janina Geller demanded.

In January, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, U.S. director of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, reiterated the island's denouncements of Washington's lack of cooperation in seeking answers to these alleged incidents.

In his Twitter, the official insisted that the U.S. government has not shown any evidence that such events have occurred, but some spokespersons and media in the northern country use the term 'attacks' to describe them.

Fernandez de Cossio's words follow the position set a day earlier by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who in a summary of Cuban foreign policy in 2018 and projections for 2019 warned of the interest of sectors in Washington in affecting bilateral relations.
