Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday congratulated Maestro Frank Fernandez on his 75th birthday and for his 60 years of artistic career.

In a message on his Twitter account, the president lauded the virtuosity of the world-renowned Cuban pianist and described his performances as sonorities from the Cuban and international soul.

'#Cuba today celebrates the 75 splendid years of life and 60 years as a musician of Maestro Frank Fernandez, whose prodigious hands have made up listen to the sonorities of the Cuban and universal soul. #Congratulations Frank. #Thank you for the music', the head of State wrote on his Twitter account @DiazCanelB.

Fernandez is considered the father of the Cuban piano school, because his students, without attending foreign conservatories, have won 27 international prizes.

He graduated with a gold diploma from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and is the only Cuban who has won the Pushkin Medal, granted by Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.

In addition to more than 200 prizes, his repertoire exceeds 650 compositions for different formats: ballets, choirs, soundtracks for cinema, radio and television, and arrangements for popular music orchestras.
