The new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba was proclaimed today in a solemn act of the National Assembly of the People´s Power in a speech delivered by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party, Raul Castro.

The leader pointed out —in a session held at the Convention Palace with almost 600 members of Cuba’s Parliament in attendance— that once proclaimed the Constitution, it will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic to take effect immediately.

While addressing the audience, Raul Castro confirmed the Constitution ratifies the continuity of the Revolution and the irrevocable nature of socialism in the Greatest of Antilles, in consonance with the will of those who have fought for more than 150 years for a free, sovereign homeland where social justice is a common practice.

The new Constitution is the result of its time and reflects the historical circumstances in the construction of our society, he noted.

Raul Castro highlighted that the document ratified by a large majority of Cubans at the polls, in constitutional referendum held on February 24, 2019, remains true to the goals of achieving an increasingly prosperous, sustainable, inclusive, and participatory socialism.
