The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People''s Power of Cuba on Friday condemned the political, judicial and media persecution against former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and rejected his unjust imprisonment.

Lula is the victim of a revenge of the oligarchy and imperialism, trying to eliminate his political and moral leadership, capable to lead a true process of change favorable to the excluded sectors of Brazilian society,' said the declaration approved on Friday.

According to the letter, Brazilian leader imprisonment seeks to discredit and dismantle the social and economic advances achieved under his leadership, and criminalize the forces that support him.

The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power appeals to the honest parliamentarians of the American continent and the world to demand Lula's release and express their full solidarity with the just claims of the Brazilian people, according to the document.

First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro, reiterated two days ago the Cuban solidarity with the Brazilian leader, who served a year of unjust imprisonment.

We demand his freedom, he sentenced when he delivered the speech proclaiming the new Constitution of the Republic last Wednesday.

Lula completed a year of imprisonment on April 7, victim of partial justice and at the service of political interests, with a sentence of 12 years and one month imposed by the Federal Regional Court of the fourth region for alleged acts of corruption.
