Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel recalled Victory Day over fascism today and highlighted the contribution of the Russian people to world peace.

'We admire the magnificent parade on the Red Square for the 74th anniversary of the Victory over fascism and the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin. We share his call for cooperation for global peace,' the Cuban head of state wrote in his Twitter account.

He also noted that the island also celebrates the anniversary, inspired by the lessons of resistance and sacrifice, creativity and advance on the invaders, of all the peoples that formed the extinct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).

The victory of the USSR and the Allies over Nazi Germany in World War II was reached on May 9, 1945. Since then, the date is known as Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War, and it is a festive day in Russia and in most of the former Soviet republics.
