In light of the worsening of US policy on Cuba, many voices have been raised in Havana and around the world to condemn decisions aimed at suffocating the Caribbean island economically.

On his Twitter account, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has rejected Washington's meddling positions and he has made it clear that those measures aimed at stopping the country's development will not intimidate the people.

The president also stressed in his message that 'the Cuban people will always defend our sovereignty and independence from the empire, it is a legacy of our history that we assume.'

According to the head of State, the objective of the US Helms-Burton Act is to destroy the January 1, 1959, Revolution, and to attack Cuba's independence and dignity.

'It represents the colonial and annexation desire, it aims to cause the change of the political and economic system in Cuba. It is an affront to our sovereignty and dignity,' the president noted.

Previously, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez described the activation of Title III of Helms-Burton Act as an attack on International Law and sovereignty.

Shortly after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Washington's decision on Twitter to allow lawsuits in US courts over 'confiscated' properties (as they call the nationalizations by the Cuban Revolution), Rodriguez expressed rejection of that law on his Twitter account.

According to Rodriguez, it is an attack on the sovereignty of Cuba and other States, considering the extraterritorial nature of Title III, aimed at depriving Cuba of foreign investment, threatening current and potential partners.

Messages from Russia and China rejected the escalation of US hostility against Cuba, following the announcement of the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

We reiterate that we are against unilateral sanctions and those restrictions can only be legitimate if they are endorsed by the United Nations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Prensa Latina.

China expressed its opposition to the US unilateral measures that tighten the economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba, and emphasized that those measures are an obstacle to the socioeconomic development and welfare of the Caribbean country.
