President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated Cuban mothers for celebrating their day in Cuba every second Sunday in May.
It is a beautiful day for Mothers, because it reminds us of the homage we owe to the day-to-day heroines. Congratulations mothers. We are your children', wrote the Cuabn President in his Twitter @DiazCanelB.
In another tweet, the Head of State stressed: Happy Cuban mothers, protective and tender, firm and demanding. Thank you for giving life, home, care and food. For sustaining daily heroism. For giving birth to this people we are proud of.
For his part, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, also recognized the role of mothers in society and extended his congratulations, especially to his coworkers.
Congratulations to Cuban mothers, especially those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Honored to share daily with colleagues like them: courageous, hardworking, sensitive, committed, he wrote in Twitter.
The National People's Power Assembly website also published a letter from its President, Esteban Lazo, in which he considers the role of women in Cuban history to be significant.
There have been many moments in the struggle of our people for independence and social justice in which women in general and mothers in particular have played a transcendental role in the history of Cuba, the letter states.
The Cuban Workers Central and the National Unions also sent congratulations to mothers.
They remembered a phrase of the National Hero, Jose Marti: 'neither can Homeland stop warning that the people' campaigns are only weak, when in them the women's heart is not joined; but when the woman... anoints the work with the honey of her affection the work is invincible.
The official commemoration - celebrated in much of the world on different dates - goes back to ancient Greece when Rhea was the great mother of the gods.
