Cuban Vice Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra accused the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, of lying when he implicated Cuba in a case of alleged drug trafficking.

Accusations by Almagro of Cuban alleged involvement in an incident associated with the seizure of drugs in Panama, is totally unfounded. Once again he lies to try to damage the prestige of the Revolution, the diplomat tweeted.

Cuba is an example worldwide in the fight against drug trafficking, he stressed.

Regarding the case, the Ministry of Security (MINSEG) of Panama rectified a previous assertion yesterday and indicated that the drug seized in a container from Cuba, 'is alleged' to have been contaminated in Panamanian territory.

In a statement, the MINSEG ensured this fact 'is not attributable to any State'.

He also added that 'the contamination of containers in cargo ports represent one of the main modalities employed by drug trafficking networks that threaten all countries affected by the production, transit and consumption of drugs globally.'

Yesterday, the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba denied versions that seek to link the country in such event.

The Cuban Customs Office stated the cargo (charcoal sold to Turkey) arrived at the Panamanian port with the stamp put in Cuba and all the documentation that supports it in order.

At the time of the event's detection, it could be seen the seal had been changed, after the drug was introduced, he underscored.

The Secretary General of the OAS hastened to accuse Cuba of being linked to drug trafficking operations, in another sheet of his long record of actions against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
