Former Cuban Baseball Player Recovers from Tragic Traffic Accident
Havana, June 23 (Prensa Latina) Outstanding Cuban former baseball player Luis Ulacia is recovering from a tragic traffic accident he went through on Saturday on a highway north of the central western province of Camagüey.
Although the two-time Olympic baseball champion (Barcelona-92 and Atlanta-96) only had an ankle fracture, he was traveling with his seven-year-old granddaughter, who unfortunately died, Camagüey's sports authorities confirmed to the local newspaper Adelante.
The front tire of Ulacia's vehicle blew up on a road near the town of Minas, 30 kilometers north of the provincial capital, the local newspaper added on Facebook.
The legendary first batter of provincial and national teams was assisted at the hospital of that town first but later he was transferred to the provincial capital.
The 55-year-old former player is remembered for wearing the number one on his uniform throughout his career, as well as for his excellent ability to touch the ball, which earned him the position of prow man in all teams he made.
