Cuban Labor and Social Security Minister Margarita Gonzalez on Tuesday described the salary increase implemented by the Government in the budgeted sector as significant.

It is not a definite solution, but it is a quite significant increase, she explained on the TV program Mesa Redonda (Round Table), which was broadcast from the Palace of the Revolution, with the participation of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

According to Gonzalez, one of the objectives of the measure is to recognize the work of employees from the health care, education and research sectors.

In addition, it benefits workers from the media, culture and artistic sectors, as well as judges, prosecutors and officials from local governments and the central administration of the State, among other fields, she added.

The minister explained that in the next few weeks, a pay scale will be implemented with a minimum salary of 400 pesos and a maximum wage of 3,000 pesos, in order to make progress in the country's economic and social development.

The wage raise aims to increase the people's living standards, despite the tightening of the hostile policy by the United States on Cuba.

These benefits will have a positive impact on more than 2.7 million Cubans, including workers and pensioners from the budgeted sector.
