Cuba will defend principles such as non-meddling in the internal affairs of states and the right to peace at a preparatory meeting for the upcoming Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

According to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Anayansi Rodriguez, that Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau, to be held in Caracas on July 20-21, will serve as preparation for the eighteenth NAM Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, in October this year.

On the first day of the Caracas meeting, the NAM Ministerial Committee for Palestine will meet, which will be a favorable occasion to adopt a declaration of support for the cause of that people.

Cuba, as the founding country of this movement born in the midst of the collapse of the colonial system and the emancipatory struggle of the peoples of Africa, Asia, Latin America and other regions, is fully committed to the principles that gave rise to it, the official asserted.

She recalled that these 10 founding principles were ratified at the 14th Summit held in Havana in 2006.

The struggle for a just, democratic and equitable international order, the rejection of unilateral coercive measures, the strengthening of multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of conflicts will be on the agenda of the Cuban delegation to these meetings.

The participants will once again speak out against the blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, and its intensification with the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, and will demand the end of the radio and television aggressions against the island.

Under the slogan 'Foster and Consolidate Peace through Respect for International Law', the meeting will demand the return of the territory illegally occupied by the United States in Guantanamo, in eastern Cuba.

Rodriguez added that it is crucial to preserve and strengthen the unity of the countries that make up the NAM, its main strength as a mechanism for political agreement to face global challenges.
