President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, stated today that his country supports the strengthening of relations with Cuba and wishes to concrete specific projects in health, education and culture. After receiving the credentials by the island´s concurrent ambassador with residence in Kazakhstan, Carlos Valdes, the statesman sent a greeting to the Head of State, Raul Castro, and the Cuban people, wishing success and prosperity.

In his welcoming remarks at the Presidential Palace in Bishkek, addressing the Cuban diplomat, Atambayev recalled that the cordial relations between the two countries were established in Soviet times.

My generation is warmly related to Cuba and everything that happens in it attracts us affectively, the popular song "Cuba, tú eres mi amor" (Cuba Is My Love) is always in our minds, the statesman said.

The Cuban ambassador thanked the Kyrgyz presidential´s kind words, and expressed confidence in the development of bilateral ties through mutually beneficial cooperation.

Atambayev received the credentials of ambassadors from Armenia, Canada, Cuba, Estonia, Italy, and Turkmenistan.

Subsequently, Valdes thanked during a news conference Kyrgyzstan´s support on October 28 to the Cuban resolution against the blockade, supported at the UN General Assembly by 188 states and only opposed by Washington and Israel.

He recalled in front of journalists that Cubans Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero remain in prison in the United States for trying to prevent violent actions against their country, organized in that northern territory.
