Keeping peace in Venezuela and the Latin American and Caribbean region is a priority for the political and social parties and organizations that are members of the Sao Paulo Forum, held in Caracas until Sunday.

In the Final Declaration of the 25th Annual Meeting, the mechanism of consultation of the Latin American and world left wing called to promote solidarity by defending sovereignty and the self-determination of the Venezuelan people.

The document expressed support for the dialogue between the Bolivarian Government and the opposition, as it is 'a genuine expression of democracy and freedom' in the country; it rejected the threats of military intervention, the economic sanctions and the diplomatic siege the United States has imposed on Venezuela.

The demand for the unconditional, total and definitive end of Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba, and the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in Guantanamo to the Caribbean island, were also established in the declaration of the Sao Paulo Forum.

The parties, political organizations and social movements that gathered in Caracas also called to strengthen the defense of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Peace Zone, approved at the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Havana.

Participants described 'the defense of CELAC as the greatest unitary event of the last 200 years, and the generation of the integrationist idea in our peoples' as urgent and vital.

They also called to repudiate the dangerous military presence of the United States and its allies from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the Caribbean, with clearly aggressive purposes and pressure on the nations of the region.

The Sao Paulo Forum also denounced the interfering role of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the service of the United States, and condemned the White House unconventional war against governments that oppose its orders and interests.

The Sao Paulo Forum also ratified the support for the Honduran people in their fight in defense of their rights, against neoliberal policies and corruption, rejected the criminalization of migrants by the United States, and supported Puerto Rico's struggle for independence.
