The Council of Ministers meeting for the month of July was held, presided by its President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

– A report on the improvement of zoning and land use policies was presented.

– Samuel Rodiles Planas, president of the Institute of Physical Planning, presented a special urban plan for Varadero, the country’s most popular beach resort.

– A territorial land use plan was approved for mountainous areas.

– Results from the recently concluded sugar harvest were analyzed. It was reported that production reached only 87% of tonnage projected, due, among other causes, to industrial inefficiency, a shortage of workers, delays in deliveries of inputs, bad weather, and external factors.

– President Díaz-Canel insisted on the need to apply research findings to improve results in the sugar industry, and emphasized that efforts must continue to increase exports, especially of sugar cane derivatives.

– Two cases of mismanagement of resources were discussed, with the President commenting that waiting around for someone else to take care of responsibilities is not an acceptable practice.

– Also debated were additional measures to boost the economy, which will be implemented gradually over the coming period.
