Cuban President visits different sites in Havana

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel toured several sites in Havana on Wednesday, some of them renovated in the lead up to Havana's 500th anniversary in November.

Diaz-Canel visited a school in the municipality of Habana Vieja, which will reopen its doors after capital repairs, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Information Technology new laboratories, the Cuban Presidency reported on Twitter.

The tour included Havana's popular China Town, an emblematic site of great historical and patrimonial value, that has also resumed operations after being restored.

The President, accompanied by Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velazquez, and other authorities, also visited the construction and restoration work at the Finca de los Monos.

A message from the Presidency on Twitter indicated that the site will house the Technology Palace project, which will make it possible for children and young people to come into contact with technology and nature.

Another stop was the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences, where work is being done to recover facilities and maintain relations with the country's main scientific institutions, among other matters.

This school, officially opened in January 1974 by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was conceived to combine study and work in a learning environment and aimed at fostering an inclination for research and science.

The authorities, headed by the president, also attended the reopening of the Japanese garden located in the Havana Botanical Garden.
