Global Solidarity event to be held in Cuba

Organizers of the Anti-Imperialist Meeting of Solidarity for Democracy and against Neoliberalism called on social movements and progressive forces worldwide to strengthen unity to counter attacks on the sovereignty of peoples.

Representing the World Peace Council, of which Cuba is a continental coordinator, we call on all peace movements in the world to join us in the event, affirmed Silvio Platero, president of the Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of Peoples.

According to Platero, the meeting scheduled from November 1 to 3 at the Havana International Conference Center 'is of vital importance ahead of the growing threats to peace.'

'Now, more than ever, we are aware of the need for unity of the entire left and progressive forces of the world', he emphasized in a press conference held at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

The activist spoke of the importance of uniting forces in pursuit of the welfare of the peoples who suffer the impact of imperialist policies, such as Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Bolivia.

Organized by ICAP, the Cuban Chapter of Social Movements and the Continental Day for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, the event will include five commissions to discuss decolonization, communication, youth, democracy, solidarity and anti-imperialism, among other issues.

ICAP President Fernando Gonzalez described the meeting as essentially focusing on solidarity with Cuba in the face of the aggressive US escalation against the island.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Cuban Workers' Federation, Ulises Guilarte, stated that the Meeting will serve to reiterate Cuba's support for the Palestinian, Saharawi and Puerto Rican peoples.
