Cuban authorities agree this Thursday that 'savings' is the watchword in the midst of the energy shortage that the country is currently experiencing, where it seeks to maintain the most important services for the population despite fuel shortages.

Several ministers pointed out that it is necessary to make rational use of means of transport of all kinds in order to avoid wasting fuel.

In each province, the strategy is that no truck circulates empty; any vehicle that travels from one province to another should be loading at both ends.

Minister of Construction Rene Mesa reported that despite the energy situation due to the tightening of the US blockade, prioritized programs are advancing, while alternative energy generation projects are being promoted.

He assured that since September 11, measures have been adopted to save fuel, without sacrificing the continuity of housing construction, and the completion of works in progress in the tourism sector, among other priorities.

To ensure this, fuel supplies were redistributed and some activities such as asphalting, earthmoving for construction, and mining developments, which are energy-intensive, were temporarily halted.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recently reported that the current situation fundamentally affects food mobility, worker and public transportation, and electricity generation during peak hours.

'They are trying to prevent fuel from reaching Cuba, they are blackmailing companies and freighters that do business with our country; the application of the Helms-Burton Act has intimidated and pressured,' explained the Cuban president.
