Diplomats expelled by the US from Cuban Mission to the UN return to Havana

Havana, September 21 (RHC)-- The two Cubans diplomats  that were expelled by the United States from the island's permanent mission to the United Nations arrived in Havana Friday.   Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez received them at José Martí International Airport, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

Jorge Peña and Rolando Vergara returned to the Caribbean island along with their families with the satisfaction of the fullfillment of their duty, reported the news agency.

Cuba maintains that both carried out their mission during their stay in the U.S. country in full compliance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

"I categorically reject the unjustified expulsion of two officials from the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN and the tightening of movement restrictions on diplomats and relatives," wrote Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez onm Twitter.

According to the U.S. State Department, Cuban diplomats were involved in 'activities that threaten the national security of that country,' which was roundly denied by the island's foreign minister when he condemned the expulsion decreed by the U.S. government.

Rodriguez described as vulgar slander the accusation that they carried out acts incompatible with diplomatic status.
