President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted here the work of a group of students from the Faculty of Electric Engineering and Telecommunications of the Central University Marta Abreu of Las Villas in the supervision of electric power in the state and residential sector.

The purpose of this group of 250 youths, together with the National Office for the Control and Rational Use of Energy (Onure), is to sensitize managers of productive entities or services, to extend their peak hours to periods of lower power consumption.

The president, on the eve of the visit to the province of Villa Clara, to evaluate the strategies applied for saving electricity, positively assessed how these young people heeded the call made by the Government.

'I received with great joy the news that the Central University Marta Abreu of las Villas had a group of students attending to the energy problem and right there we passed a Tweet 'that's how we should think as a country,' said the president of Cuba.

Likewise, Díaz-Canel pointed out that 'those youths assessing this situation in real time today, in a few years they will be occupying the responsibilities we occupy today and will have to decide what to do at times like this and in more difficult times'.

Cuba is going through a temporary energy deficit situation, caused by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial siege of the United States, not only on Cuba, but also several Latin American countries and foreign companies.

The university contingent has already carried out 936 inspections, and detected 244 deficiencies in different companies and institutions, although there has been receptivity by managers who take saving measures.

Also in the territory of Villa Clara, a contingent of the University of Medical Sciences contributes to fight the epidemiological threat and 917 patrols of children and youths who persuade citizens to save more energy.
