The defense of democracy and sovereignty is the common agenda that unites the nations of the region and an articulation of the different progressive movements can achieve the definitive victory over neoliberalism, said Jordania Ureña today, former president of the Working Youth Committee of the Americas and Current Secretary of the Trade Union Confederation of Workers of the Americas.

In the opening session of the Anti-Imperialist Meeting of Solidarity, for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, which started  today the Convention Center of this capital, he said that the unitary calling of struggle and resistance of hundreds of organizations and movements, and the need for an articulated response of the movements and sectors from diversity.

He recalled that after two decades of popular governments and of confrontations against neoliberal policies, despite advances in social inclusion, the region entered a phase of exhaustion due to several factors, which allowed an advance of the right wing.

We have identified that neoliberal policies are still the main interest of transnational companies in the area that lead to keep in the present and the future a deprivation of people's rights.

In that context -he said- it`s important to plan an agenda, add the diverse initiatives and identify a right path that illuminates our struggles to deal with
structural factors that prevent people from having a dignified life and with rights.

He assured that an integration is defended that goes beyond the institutionality, and that an anti-imperialist agenda is needed, for democracy and in favor of the people, that have feminism and environmental commitment as an key element of the project they seek.

We are heirs of a large tradition of struggle, and the constant confrontation against neoliberalism gives the necessary horizon and possible for solidarity, cooperation and reciprocity, he highlighted.

He particularly acknowledged that Cuba is a beautiful island of dignity, a symbol of rebellion and decision, sovereign nation that has defended its project against the most dissimilar aggressions of the United States governments.

In this regard he said that around these days Cuba welcomes hundreds of participants in the event amidst strong confrontation, for almost 60 years of the criminal blockade.

We support Cuba`s right to fight to keep its project, without pressure or interference, and this meeting is also in solidarity with other peoples, like the Venezuelan, the Bolivian, the Nicaraguan people, he said.

He also took the opportunity to send a big hug to the people who stay on the streets mobilized and struggling to overthrow Neoliberal models imposed and exported.

Our challenge is to leave Havana widening the unit, identifying all networks to drive an action plan that defend democracy and defeat imperialism. The challenge is also taking another step towards our autonomy, and promote a great front in the continent, he emphasized.

In her conclusion, she pointed out that constant struggle and unity can overthrow the strongest enemies, and that, in this context, is not possible to take a step back, for the people, and for Latin America.
