Leftist movements urged to generate Battle of Ideas

Havana, Nov 1st. Argentine political analyst, Atilio Boron, urged leftist forces to generate a battle of ideas in order to succeed against the communicational aggressiveness of the Empire during his speech at the Anti-Imperialist Meeting of Solidarity, for Democracy, and against Neoliberalism, which is being held here in Havana.

The intellectual was part of the panel *Retos de la Izquierda* (Left-wing Challenges) in the present scene against the imperialist offensive.

Today, he highlighted, the Empire does not resort to conventional wars and military coups. The Empire resorts now to –as some have said– the V Generation warfare. He also stated that such Empire has a defined strategy aimed at winning our minds and hearts.

Boron explained that the U.S. and its allies have carried out –for decades– subversive programs by recruiting journalists and training judges, who have
sent to trial Lula in Brazil, and Jorge Glas in Ecuador, among many others.

“The Empire is attacking us like never before throughout a hostility campaign, diplomatic offensive, and economic sanctions,” while noting we are living under a media dictatorship.

In relation to this, he highlighted that every moderately progressive government in Latin America is attacked by the U.S. In order to do so, the U.S. uses right-wing media in the region, which owns nearly 85% of generated news.

In such context, he urged to use, and especially, coordinate community radios, popular TV networks, and utilize mobiles to air what media monopolies hide.

“We will never have access to giant media networks. The struggle is tough, but we can certainly win,” he pointed out.
