What to do against media war? Discussion point at the Solidarity Meeting

Havana, Nov 1st. In the battlefield of information, where the oligarchy is fighting to crush public opinion, we are rooting for those who fight for a better world, said José Manzaneda, coordinator of the website *Cubainformación*, in the panel *Retos de la izquierda* (Left-wing Challenges) in the current scene to neutralize the imperialist offensive.

From the Anti-Imperialist Meeting of Solidarity, for Democracy, and against Neoliberalism, which is being held in Havana, he pointed out the need to rethink and improve communication from the left-wing perspective, in order to face the constant media attacks of forces serving the imperialism, which silence voices and manipulate facts in their own way.

He insisted that, in such a context, a necessary strategy is to turn leftist activists into actors of political communication, as well as activate and strengthen network cooperation, which must be constantly updated.

We have weaknesses and strengths, but we also have opportunities thanks to very skillful people and alternative media with we have, he added.

Similarly, he said that it is paramount to make a sort of map in which everything that can be done in terms of communication can be reflected.

He recalled that the web-tv *Cubainformación*, which he coordinates, was created to refute international media campaigns against Cuba, and he expressed his willingness to ally with other media.

More than one thousand activists from 90 countries and hundreds of organizations gather until next Sunday at the Havana´s Convention Palace to discuss and take steps in the articulation of the unity of left-wing forces.

Organized by the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples, the Cuban Chapter of Social Movements and the Continental Platform for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism, the Anti-Imperialist Meeting conveys the decision of the Cuban Revolution to become a meeting point of the struggles of peoples in the Latin American continent.
