Among danceable popular music, hot brew, and shouts of "Long Live Cuba" and "Down with the Blockade", yesterday evening at Barbosa neighborhood in the participants in the Anti-imperialist Solidarity Meeting, for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, visited that community and shared with the neighbors.

The heads of 25 Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) spoke welcoming words to visitors - more than a thousand from 95 countries - invited them to get to know the Cuba that doesn’t show on the sun and beach postcards.

In statements to Siempre con Cuba, Guillermo Lamela, local secretary or the Communist Party of Cuba, said that Barbosa is a humble neighborhood that supports the Revolution, and reminded visitors that Cuban does not share what they have to spare, but what they have to share.

The neighbor Yosbel Santodomingo declared that what happened was an activity similar to the traditional party of September 28th, the day in which CDRs were created, and he pointed out that since afternoon hours the neighbors, including children and elders, adorned the  place and cooked the meal for the expected visitors.

Ileana Medina, from CDR 8, acknowledged that the Meeting is very important because it connects Cuba with the world and "demonstrates that we remain steady next to the principles of the Revolution, under the Fidel’s beacon." Zamara Blanco, president of that CDR, said that the event strengthens the union of the progressive forces that are committed to the Revolution, and which are evidence that Cuba is coming for more and that " here nobody gives up."

The activists, who represent hundreds of organizations form all continents, shared with the CDR members were moved and surprised by the unity of the people, their hospitality and joy.

Nicolás Aguilar, president of the National Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba from Peru, told the neighbors of the CDR 10 that in the advance of left forces in Latin America are present the example of Cuba and Fidel.

Meanwhile, Gerardo Márquez, from Venezuela, although he has visited Havana several times, made his first visit to a neighborhood. It’s an honor to be on a country that, like his country, stays strong against the aggressions of North American imperialism.

Peter Burke, from Trinidad and Tobago, confessed that it was an interesting experience with the CDR members, and that he is a faithful defender of the sovereignty of the peoples. This Friday was not an exclusive activity for the residents of Barbosa. There were others who, after hearing the echoes of the initiative, traveled several miles and came closer to greet Cuba's friends as well.

an example was Pablo Martínez, a resident from San Agustín neighborhood, who decided to attend to share with visitors and tell them about the reality that Cuba lives.

The young Amanda Lamela said to be excited, "because I had never been in an activity like this before." For her, the most important part of the celebration is that the delegates understood the unity between the families and the CDR.

This cheerful day of the CDR members ended with a large concert of several national and foreign artists, like Marta Campos, Raúl Torres, and Surconciente, who were the prelude to the presentation of the famous Moncada band whose songs were chanted by the audience from the neighborhoods.
